Llama Llama Red Pajama Quilt Color Matching

Quilt Color Matching Activity inspired by the book Llama Llama Red Pajama

This month’s book for the Virtual Book Club for Kids is Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney. We have read a few other Llama Llama books, but this specific book was new to us. As we read through the story, the one thing I noticed on every page was the adorable patchwork quilt in Llama Llama’s bed. We decided to make a fun color matching quilt (using contact paper).

We chose to do this activity vertically (on a wall) but it could easily be adapted for a tabletop activity as well. You could use the sticky contact paper or you could just use glue to secure the quilt squares onto the coordinating colors.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Contact Paper
Construction Paper
Various colors/patterns of scrapbooking paper
Packing Tape
Painter’s Tape
Paper Trimmer (optional)

1. Cut your construction paper into 3-inch squares. I used my paper trimmer and it made it super fast and easy!

2. Roll out your piece of contact paper and arrange the colored squares on the clear backside (not the side with writing on it). Use lines of packing tape to secure each row of colored squares onto the backside of the contact paper.

3. Remove the backing off the contact paper and use painter’s tape to hang on the wall. Have your colored “quilt squares” ready to attach.

4. Let your little ones get busy helping you match the quilt squares to the coordinating colors on the grid.

  1. I was looking to find the farm lego puzzles and the link goes to the Llama Llama activities. Is there a better way to access this? Thanks!
