Leaf Color Match for Toddlers

 

Fall is just around the corner. A few of our leaves have already started changing and I am looking forward to the cooler temperatures! I can’t wait to see the myriad of colors that will characterize our October and November months!

 

Our Leaf Color Match for Toddlers focuses on two objectives:  fine motor practice and color recognition.

 

I was super excited to create and share this activity, but to be completely honest, this is an activity that Little Sister (18 months) will have to grow into. We have been working on color recognition recently (although we have a long way to go before she even recognizes one color successfully) and pinching the clothespin proved to be a tad bit too hard for her little hands right now. But we will keep trying!

 

Here’s what you’ll need:

Clothespins
Markers
Large piece of cardboard
Foam Leaves (I bought mine at Hobby Lobby but you can find similar stickers here)
Scissors
Small Circle Labels

 

 

 

1. Trace a trunk shape onto your piece of cardboard and cut out.

 

 

 

 

2. Color the circle labels with the same colors as your foam leaves.

 

3. Attach the foam leaves to the clothespins.

 

4. Attach the colored circles onto the tree trunk.

 

This is her “deer in the headlights” look:  “What am I supposed to do with this?”

 

She was almost able to pinch the clothespin…but not quite.

 

She liked trying to take the clothespins off of the tree.

 

Her brothers stepped in to help out. :)

 

All the colors have been matched and the fall tree is complete! :)
