Day 6 of Creation: Animals and Man

We took a little field trip to learn about Day 6 of God’s Creation…it was a beautiful day so we went to the zoo! What better way to “learn” about God’s creation than seeing it firsthand, right?

The giraffes are our favorite!

Prince Charming was even able to meet us there during his lunch hour…an extra special treat!
And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so. God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.” -Genesis 1: 24-31
Some other activities you could do for Day 6 are:
  • Animals and People Sort:  Print out pictures of various animals and people. Have your child sort the pictures into corresponding piles (animals and people). For older children, you could encourage them to sort the pictures based on where they live, what their habitat is, etc.
  • My Body Book:  Make this book with your little one to talk about how God made each individual body part for it’s very own purpose!

*The words to this verse don’t rhyme. It honestly drives me crazy…but nothing works for this day that rhymes with “six”. :)

  1. We sing it, "Sixth Day, Sixth Day, God made animals and Man that day." I've always sung it that way with the kids and none of them have questioned the change. :) Love all of your ideas!

  2. I've been reading your blog for awhile now because I love seeing new fun ideas to use with my kiddos. Great stuff. Seeing these pictures, I think we live near the same zoo! :) Small world!

  3. How about "Day six, Day six, God made animals and man SO QUICK". Althought, technically speaking, it would be quickly since it's an adverb, I think most people wouldn't even know the difference. :)
Or "God made animals and man TOP PICKS?"
    lol
IDK, but it would drive me crazy too bc your other days rhyme so well.

    1. Yes I do realize we are technically “mammals” and share many similar characteristics as “animals”, but I also know that we were created in the image of God himself (Gen. 1:26) which obviously sets us apart. And we were made to “rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

  4. Using these rhymes have been a great tool for me to use in Sunday school class over the past month. My kids are totally engaged when I start singing, using the crafts we made to help them remember the words to the song! Thanks everyone for filling in for day 6…great ideas!

  5. I taught my little guy “Day 6, day 6, God made man and walking sticks!” Then we were able to talk about insects and that a walking stick is a real thing!
