Day 4 of Creation: Sun, Moon, & Stars
“And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.” -Genesis 1:14-19

On the fourth day of creation, God created the sun, moon, and stars. This day always intrigues me because God actually created light on the first day. However, all light derived at this point in time is from the sun, which wasn’t created until the fourth day! It reminds me that God is big enough and powerful enough to produce light from Himself alone!
Today we made a mobile to represent the fourth day of God’s creation.
Here’s what you’ll need: construction paper, crayons, yarn, glue stick, and tape.
2. Let your little one color both sides of the paper. |
3. Next, let him/her cut out the shapes. Big Brother got frustrated with this after cutting out one star, so I just did the rest. |
4. Cut a black piece of construction paper in half and then glue the two ends together. |
5. Cut piece of yarn, enough for however many pictures you have. |
6. Tape the yarn to the top. Then tape each picture onto the bottom of each piece of yarn. Tape two arcs at the top. |
7. Glue (or tape) the ends of the black construction paper together. |
8. Cut another small piece of yarn and then tie the two arcs of yarn together. |
9. Hang! |
Have fun! |
Here is the song to go along with this day (again, please excuse my terrible singing voice). Big Brother had a hard time saying all of the words quick enough. :)
“Day 4, Day 4
God made sun, moon, stars galore
Day 4, Day 4
God made sun, moon, stars galore.”
Thank you so much for posting this series on the days of creation. My son is two and in a couple of months I want to begin adding a little "formal" schooling to our schedule as I would like to home school him throughout his academic "career". I have been at a lose for what I can do to teach him Bible stuff. This helps me tremendously! I've already been singing the song/verses (Day 1, Day 1…)with him and he loves it!
We just say, "Sun and moon and stars galore." Seems to fit the tune better for us without having to rush through words to make it fit.
I love this! I think my kids would love it too! I also saved the planter one to do this weekend. He wanted to do a garden last year so I think he would love to actually be able to watch the seeds transform in his window. Thanks!
Hi! I am a 3 and 4 year old preschool teacher. I am so glad I found this about Day 4! My kids are going to love the #4 with the stars and moon and sun! Thank you!
I can’t believe how brillient these ideas are. I’ve been looking for ways to celebrate God more during Christmas and we’re going to try all 7 of these this year! Thank you so much for posting these!

What an amazing creation. I thought the comment of 1-3 being so important for plants and environment. I loved the idea of planting seeds in plastic bags. Thank you so much. God bless you richly. Valerie
