Resurrection Cookies
I’ve seen several ideas for making Resurrection Rolls (here and here are just two examples), but I wanted to try out a similar concept with cookies, particularly Snickerdoodles.
The boys and I really enjoyed making these cookies and talking about how the marshmallow was like Jesus’ body. After 3 days (represented by 8 minutes in the oven), his body was there no longer…He had risen! Although I was disappointed that the cookies didn’t stay “fluffed” in the middle like the resurrection rolls do, I really liked how you could see a little bit of the white in the center of the cookie because it represented the empty burial cloths.
We used this recipe for the World’s Best Snickerdoodles (along with some miniature marshmallows).
 1. Soften 1/2 cup of butter and 1/2 cup of shortening. Yes people, these are healthy. :)
 2. Cream butter, shortening, 2 eggs, and 1 1/2 cups of sugar. Set aside.
 3. Mix (in a separate bowl) 2 3/4 cups flour, 2 teaspoons cream of tartar, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
 4. Mix wet and dry ingredients together.
 5. Cover and refrigerate for at least an hour.
6. In the meantime, mix 2 tablespoons sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon in a small bowl.
7. Get a scoop of dough using a cookie dough scoop (one of my favorite kitchen gadgets). Use your finger to make a deep hole in which to place the miniature marshmallow.
8. Let your child roll it into a ball.
9. Roll cookie dough in cinnamon mixture.
10. Bake at 400 degrees for approximately 8-9 minutes.
All done!
Enjoy making these cookies with your children (or try making the rolls from the links above). It is just a tasty, everyday way that we can instill the story of Jesus into our day!
Very clever idea. I’m sure they tasted great, too.
Thanks for the link! I’m completely cracking up because I posted Resurrection Cookies today, too! :)
I JUST saw that…although, I have to say that yours turned out way better than mine!!! I love how fluffy they are! :)
