Old Glory Craft

I’m sure craft sticks and painter’s tape isn’t exactly what Betsy Ross had in mind when she made the first flag over 230 years ago. But we had fun lots of fun making this popsicle stick flag…even if all the details (number of stars and stripes) aren’t exactly correct.

Here’s what you’ll need:  craft sticks, paint, paintbrushes, painter’s tape, glue, and star stickers.

1. Paint your craft sticks. We only had colored craft sticks, so we had to paint 2 yellow sticks white. The red sticks were already colored, so we didn’t paint those. You’ll need 3 reds. Let the craft sticks dry completely.
2. Paint two craft sticks black (for the pole). Let dry.

4. Continue adding each stick by gluing the edges.
3. Once dry, add a thin line of glue to the edge of the craft sticks.
5. Glue the two black sticks together as well. Let dry.
6. Glue the flag onto the black sticks.

7. Add a piece of painter’s tape for the blue part of the flag.

The flag makes a beautiful planter decoration!
8. Add stickers and you’re done!

  1. Thanks for posting this. I had the kids do this, we painted the blue on ours though and also they wanted to add some glitter to make their flags sparkle.
