Festive Apple Turkey
I saw the idea for this little turkey here and thought it would be fun to make. The only problem was…I didn’t have any colored marshmallows. We had regular marshmallows, so we improvised by adding some gel food coloring. It made it a little messier because the food coloring got on Big Brother’s fingers…but that was easily remedied with a good hand washing. :)
In addition to being cute, this craft has some built-in fine motor practice!
Here’s what you’ll need: an apple (or potato), toothpicks, marshmallows (colored or regular), some googly eyes, red construction paper and orange construction paper.
1. If you don’t have colored marshmallows, separate your marshmallows into individual bowls. |
2. Add a little food coloring (the gel kind works well) and then stir. |
3. Dry on a paper towel for an hour or two. |
4. Place the toothpicks in the apple in the shape of turkey feathers. |
5. Let your little one get to work sliding the marshmallows on the toothpicks. |
Big Brother is REALLY concentrating! |
6. Add googly eyes, a beak, and the wattle. |

We’re going to do this one this weekend with some dyed ditalini pasta (little tubes). Great idea for Thanksgiving week!
